Bell Canyon Falls

Mellow non-ski filler day

February 14, 2026

The next couple days are no-ski days, given the shin pain I was experiencing and the quality of the skiing that I would be getting. There's no new snow, the existing snow is getting more and more scraped off, and the slopes are PACKED because it's President's Day + Valentine's Day weekend. Good time to focus on non-ski things as I look forward to the storm next week and the Revy trip.

Bell Canyon Falls

Finally took the time to explore the Bell Canyon area more thoroughly.

Sign for the hike

I've already seen a couple sick sunsets from the parking lot / base area, so I thought it would be nice to use one of the non-ski days to do a hike into the actual canyon. The hike was an out-and-back with the following sections:

Initial switchbacksTraverse across box canyonChill walk along reservoirMuddy forest hikingNice creek area\text{Initial switchbacks} \\ \downarrow \\ \text{Traverse across box canyon} \\ \downarrow \\ \text{Chill walk along reservoir} \\ \downarrow \\ \text{Muddy forest hiking} \\ \downarrow \\ \text{Nice creek area}

I wasn't able to continue because 1. I didn't want to stress my legs too much given they're trying to recover from skiing + running, and 2. I didn't have crampons (it got pretty icy).

Beginning of icy trails

The hike itself was very mellow but had some nice views, with the Wasatch in the background for a lot of it. It did feel less "rugged" than I had expected, but that's fair considering the trailhead is literally a 5-10min drive from the crib.

Wasatch in the background

Point of caution! If you see this sign on the way up, don't follow it along the creek - it's only meant for the way back (explored ~15min in the wrong direction because of the sign).
