End of high pressure

A quasi 'day in the life'

February 9, 2026

Snowfall

First proper snowfall that I've seen in Utah (the "storm" a couple of weeks ago doesn't count in my mind). It was kinda jarring to see fog and clouds everywhere, given that I've only really been seeing bluebird days, but this is an exciting turn of events. "High pressure" in meteorology basically means no rain / snow, so the end of high pressure is a welcome change for skiiers everywhere in the West.

Got to see rain turn into snow as I drove up LCC today which was a really cool sight - I've never really seen anything like that before. Settled into my usual routine once I posted up, then headed up to the slopes.

Dreary day in the Albion base lot

Skiing was all right, but the visibility was pretty awful, and I had a pretty bad tumble around an hour and a half in that gave me pause. Ultimately don't think anything major happened, but I had really bad shoulder pain for a bit and also slammed my head, so I decided it would be wise to take it chill for the rest of the day.

Snowfall prediction models

I've been musing on a data science project on predicting snowfall in LCC. I wrote up a quick little overview of how I'm thinking about it mathematically here, but found out today that the data that I was hoping for is less ideal than I had hoped. Spent ~1.5 hours in the Cliff Cafe (my name for the nook that I've found in my gym) trying to pull even the most basic snowfall prediction data, but to no avail. I'll continue working on this project later this week, but pivoted to my workout.

Grinding at The Cliff Cafe

Workout, Ramp, Hot Tub, and Sauna

My joints have been a bit iffy, so I took the push day a bit lighter today. Tried to really emphasize pectoral recruitment though, since I think my chest is one of my weaker areas.

Resistance grind

Afterwards, ripped a quick run trying to get my ankle back in order. I do think the slow ramp is helping, and the view from the treadmills is always a treat.

The crucible

Post-workout, I hopped into the hot tub, which (along with the sauna) is the only reason I chose the Cliff Spa as my "gym" of choice. During the hot tub, I also throw in some mobility to try and open up my joints (a secondary priority of mine)

High-temperature, low-gravity mobility training (a.k.a., hot tub)

During the sauna sesh, I thought more about my irritation with the world. I really narrowed it down to my inflated expectations of frictionless processes, and that I always am "let down" from my expectations because things don't work as well as they should. I'm trying to do a global shift in my expectations based on this, so that I can generally be happier and less irritated with my life.

Tdap

Stepped on a nail yesterday that managed to completely puncture my slipper. Very unlucky. Went to Walgreens to rip the Tdap booster just in case, considering it would be really really bad if I got tetanus. On the bright side, I got to see this beautiful sunset in the Walgreens parking lot.

Dinner, hang with roommates, and website grind

Got back from the days activities and started whipping up my classic - I've settled on a ground beef with random sauces and spices approach. As I have more time I'll experiment with some of the other proteins I've purchased, but right now, the ground beef is super easy and tastes quite good (the other option I have for convenience is the pork bulgogi).

Post dinner, I met one of my roommates's girlfriend who's visiting for the week, and caught up with my other roommate as well. For having never met them before and completely rolling the dice off of FB Marketplace, I'm very glad to be living with both of them.

Now, I am dialed in on my website. Enjoy!
